This Government's tied up in NOTs
As honesty steadily rots
I think if you join the dots
You’ll see them Complaining,
From future – Abstaining;
This Government’s tied up in “NOT”s
Negative motivation tends not to be productive.
Positive motivation inspires and rewards – and as you get
closer to the goal the results of that journey become apparent and provide
positive feedback. Negative motivation on the other hand can be unproductive – “I
want to NOT do this” (e.g. eat that extra chocolate, have that further drink”.
We have seen over four years the biggest negative campaign in
history. Leave united over what they did NOT want - unelected bureaucrats, laws imposed on the UK by “Brussels”.
immigration from the EU. There was no unity over anything else, which is why
those who supported Leave could never agree what Brexit was.
Over 4 years possible Brexits have been met with “We do NOT
want that”. Single Market, Customs Union. The Chequers Deal. A border in the
Irish Sea. The Theresa May Deal taken to Parliament. A Final say referendum to
decide democratically what was evidently not decided in 2016. Theresa May at all.
You would think that nothing would be achieved following
this logic, and you would be correct. Boris Johnson achieved a Withdrawal Agreement
by breaking the logic, and accepting the Border in the Irish Sea which he said
no British PM could accept. Some of us
wrote that this was just a segue to a No deal – “Any Deal Will Do” because he
did not intend to fulfil it. But amazingly 28% of the British electorate appeared
to believed him. The argument I heard most often was that Tory supporters argued
for “NOT Jeremy Corbyn”
This too - the Border
in the Irish Sea. now joins the list of what the hard Right Tories that are now
in control of Government do NOT want. Hence the Internal Market Bill which
contradicts that “Any Deal will do”, which as predicted turned out NOT to be something
the UK was committed to.
Now, if you are a disaster capitalist seeking merry hell in
the UK in order that the turbulence can create what Jacob Rees-Mogg calls “super-normal
profit opportunities” then I understand your motivation. I understand it and despise it. If not then I do not understand support now
for what the Boris Johnson government has turned out to be.
If you keep telling us what you do NOT want then there is an
ever-decreasing level of positive future for the UK. This has reached its inevitable
conclusion where we are way past the time at which business needed to know what
to plan for in 2021, and our Government is still busy saying what they do NOT
want, and blaming business for being not prepared – for a future which they do
not know. That is ridiculous.
Where does that Leave the Prime Minister? It seems that he
does NOT want to have the duties of the Prime Minister. I am not surprised.
Where does that leave the UK? NOT with any positive future.
The biggest peacetime crisis in our history calls for a Government
of National Unity in which competence, expertise and integrity would be the
criteria for participation.
